WP 5 - Worker exposure to paint overspray

Aim of the WP

Evaluation of practical paint aerosol exposure at a workplace with practical conditions, which will provide reasonable dosage guide for the whole body exposure study and deliver finally useful data for assessment of the risks and toxic effects of a paint aerosol exposure to the human body

Tasks

Task #Task title
T5.1

Measuring particle concentration using a personal aerosol sampler (e.g. MiniDiSC or RESPICON). Thanks to a relative static working situation, SMPS and ELPI can be also used.

  • Taking into account practical operating conditions, such as workpiece geometry and booth air flow
  • Comparing the measured results between instruments used
  • Collection of respirable and nanometer range particles in the breathing zone
T5.2

Performing corresponding numerical simulations (IPA)

  • Set up of computational domain including atomizer, paint booth, ventilation conditions, workplace and worker model
  • Comparison of simulated and measured concentration distribution
  • Optimization of the ventilation conditions for exposure reduction
  • Evaluation of the effects by operation conditions on particle deposition
